What Does ‘Quantum Supremacy’ Mean? (In Plain Talk)

Your time is valuable…so, let’s get right to the point.

Background: The modern short word for encryption is crypto. When you hear a particular term such as Cryptocurrency, the actual term should be encryptioncurrency. But who wants to or has the time to (in our abbreviated world) to call it encryptioncurrency when we can abbreviate it to a shorter version and call it crypto?

Questions: Does your personal identity matter to you? Does protecting the assets of your company matter to you? Does your company use or create crypto data? If your company encrypts (protects) data, you are using crypto data. Encryption is used to protect people, data, money or anything of value. If encryption protects, why do we use the word crypto? Because, unfortunately, common modern acceptance of the word crypto denotes evil, dark-hooded, Halloween, malicious - right?

Answer: Ignorance, no time to read, understand, or learn about today, let alone tomorrow’s technologies. Most company CEO’s and Presidents don’t do their own research. Their attention span is short. The United States of America is currently a frog in boiling water regarding global technology. Our political leaders are too old, too corrupt, too selfish, or too close to retirement to care about the next generation. All they care about is themselves and getting re-elected. They are vote collectors, not policy makers.

Alert: Time to fix this problem, ASAP, so we still have a United States of America for our kids.

On Tuesday, September 24th, 2019 Google made a ‘Quantum’ announcement that was not covered by any of the major news channels. Why? Apparently, the subject matter was beyond the scope of reporter’s mental capacity to share the greatest advancement in humanity since the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk. 

Our media is more focused on Washington D.C. political party fights than celebrating one of the most significant advancements in modern technological history and how it benefits you, the USA citizen. Isn’t America tired of the ‘Reality Show’ called The White House? It’s time to turn the channel and tune into your life, not someone else’s.

We all want and deserve progress. And it is now here…’Quantum Supremacy’. Fighting and complaining is a waste of everyone’s time…and…it’s a recipe for disaster.

Here Is What’s Happening & What You Can Do Today:

1.    Current computer systems use complex math to encrypt your data. That’s like using a dull pencil in a mobile stylus world. 

2.    Whether this be SSL, TLS, HTTPS, or any other alphabet soup, it’s all math and it’s how all computers operate today and that’s one small aspect of encryption.

3.    When we encrypt things, we simultaneously create a key to unlock the encryption. The longer the key, the harder for traditional computers to solve the math. You get the key and then you have access to all encrypted data.  Any password, any bank account, any street address, any name, any date of birth, any social security number, any medical file, any photograph. All of our data is stored on centralized servers and this should not be the case. Encrypted data has already been stolen and patiently awaits for quantum computers to reveal all the information very quickly. The trip wire has been set.

4.    It’s not too late, but it’s important to act quickly and develop a game plan with a trusted technology advisor. This is stuff for you, your CTO, your CIO and a trusted advisor like Smart Community Technologies to discuss immediately.

5.    All computers encrypt data in this way, with math, there is no other way, there are no exceptions…yet.

6.    Encryption used today can secure data effectively from calculations to decrypt the data if the key is long enough and the math is complex enough. Current operational computers would take over 1 million years to figure out these current math puzzles.

7.    The data stolen today is all encrypted, so you think you, your family, your company and your country are safe? Think again. We’re currently on our 11th version of the popular iPhone. What version do you think mass computer processing is on?

9.    What takes computers like Summit and Sierra 10,000 years to compute takes a ‘Quantum’ computer a few seconds to compute. And that’s only one computer. What if there were 2 or 3 of them working in tandem?
