What Does Productivity Look Like in 2022?

Productivity is a highly subjective concept. While measuring productivity can be considered tangible, to a certain extent, what it means to people differs with each individual. As we celebrate the First Day of Summer and World Productivity Day, it is a perfect opportunity to see what productivity means to the workforce in the year 2022.

From 1979 to 2020, productivity has seen a rise of 61.8%. This can be attributed to meeting the greater demand, but also has to do with increased benefits and engagement employees have witnessed over these years.

While earlier the focus was on quantity, productivity in the workplace looks surprisingly different now. The ability to increase output without increasing inputs is being highly revered in the workplace right now, and people who can consistently produce quality output can be expected to advance both in life and work.

Productivity is a culmination of understanding priorities, managing time and resources, and using your innate potential towards consistent efforts and effective results. Productivity, when done right, frees up time to spend on rewarding activities and to work outside the box, thereby increasing your probability of becoming a much more rounded individual.

The narrow definition of productivity we set long ago might have had their day. Productivity in 2022 is a mindset. The workforce today might label itself as lazy and full of ideas of procrastination, but it is also highly self-motivated and displays an intense hunger to learn and grow.

A difficult prospect to gauge in individuals and in societies, productivity, can be measured through output and efficiency, yes, but with different workstyles come differences in productivity. No two people might work in a similar manner, and therefore, might not deliver the same results. This does not mean that their productivity was lacking, but is an insight on how a difference in workstyle can affect productivity.

Here are some interesting insights detailing productivity. ?

A properly planned day, with to-do lists and set priorities, might unravel if an individual fails to focus on the task at hand. In a survey, 46% of employees felt as though digital tools made them more productive. While tools can help you organize yourself better, they are not a direct boost to your productivity.

On the other hand, mandating efficiency from yourself might also have devastating consequences. Yes, to meet the greater demand productivity has been brought to the literal forefront of all aspects of the workplace, and with the world’s unrelenting march towards progress, the prospect of productivity has become even more impactful than it has ever been.

So, how can we achieve a productive day? The answer, unfortunately, is highly subjective. What you think of as an exercise to boost productivity, might be a waste of time for someone else. There is no set method to boost productivity, but building your work environment in a way that feels most agreeable to you can most definitely help you limit distractions and keep a productive train of thought all day.

Best of luck!

I think productivity can be achieved with a little bit of self awareness and understanding what exactly you as an individual are capable of. Pushing yourself harder when required, and laying back when times are easy - both are valid in their own right.
