What does PIZZA have to do with POTHOLES?

What does Domino's Pizza have to do with potholes?

Nothing, right?

Pizza has nothing to do with potholes.

But that didn't stop Domino's Pizza from being creative with its promotional dollars.

Instead of spending a kazillion dollars to create commercials telling us how delicious their pizza is, this company got creative and decided to go for publicity instead of making an ad spend.

They focused their attention on fixing potholes around the USA so "your pizza doesn't have a bumpy ride home".

Ford or Chevrolet could have done this.

Uber could have done this.

Michelin Tire or Goodrich could have done this.

Mr. Transmission could have done this.

All of those would have had a more logical connection and brought tons of media attention.

Not just visibility but good will from those who drive the bumpy rides every day.

The fact that it's a pizza company makes it more remarkable.

And as Seth Godin would say remarkable means people are likely to remark about it. 

Don't know how much Domino's Pizza is spending on this brilliant campaign, but beyond the visibility, pretty sure people will have a warm and gooey place in their hearts for the company that took action on a problem that affects everyone.

Well done.

Perhaps, you don't have megabucks.

Maybe you run a little local salon.

Can you donate hair for wigs for cancer patients?

Can you give manicures to the elderly?

Can you....your turn...what could you do?

There ARE many ways to step into the spotlight. Better ways that just buying an ad.

An advertisement is the amplification of your "We're great!" message.


Publicity can often be the amplification of OTHER people saying you're great.

Holy Credibility Batman!

I did not know that Dominos is involved in fixing potholes. However, it ties in beautifully with their ad campaign of "Carry out insurance" in which they replace your pizza for free if it is damaged when transported from their place to yours. One pothole fixed - one less damaged pizza to replace lol Tsufit ?
