What Does Peace Look Like?

"Be still and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10

The other day I sat in my car after dropping my kids off to school. I sat there for 10 minutes with the radio off, my cell phone on mute and the to do list in my head on pause. All this while not falling asleep.

For the first 2-3 minutes I struggled with all the hustle and bustle around me and the doors slamming into mine. For the first few moments I battled with my pride. You see sometimes I feel that I am so important that I need to check my cell phone every few seconds.

But as the minutes pass I find myself falling into a place of utter peace. A peace that goes beyond understanding. With my eyes wide open, I marvel at the mountains and trees that God created. I am fascinated by the intricate detail He puts into His masterpiece. For those few minutes I know that I am not alone.

In addition to being full of myself I am also guilty of multitasking. Typically, after work I will come home, grab food, sit in front of my computer checking email and checking messages on my voice mail all at the same time.

Lately I've stopped myself from that routine and just grabbed my food and sat in utter silence enjoying the meal and the company of the maker that allowed me to have it.

One word can describe the feeling of being still. AMAZING!

When was the last time you sat in utter silence observing the handy work of God Almighty?

When was the last time you just sat and enjoyed the Lord's company?

If you long for a peace that goes beyond understanding I offer this prayer for you:

Dear Almighty Father,

I hunger for you. It is my desire to know you in the most intimate ways. Lord, open my eyes that I may see you in my everyday. Open my ears that I may hear your still small voice. Abba Father, open my heart that I may receive your Words and that they bear much fruit.
