The answer to a lot of retails woes in my opinion lies in the experience. Experiential shopping, Arpan Podduturi has a quote The best kind of experiential retail are the experiences that are repeatable—not one-off gimmicks, where you take an Instagram selfie and call it a day. Meaningful experiences are where you want to go back time after time after time because the service is great, or you have a relationship with the person who works there. Repeatable value that’s different from your online experience. Shops and spaces that do this well are set to thrive, Hamleys toy store in London has in my mind perfected this with experiences at the entrance and throughout the store with princesses, magicians etc etc. That is why I love the evolution of Middlesbrough Town Centre with the development of Captain Cooks Sq. As this continues to develop footfall should increase, with increased footfall should come increased spending. Town Centre retail should capitalise on this by extending the experience into the stores.
