The Government has now published The Employment Rights Bill.? Once implemented, this legislation will make a number of significant changes to UK employment law.?
Most of the planned changes will not take effect for two years following a period of consultation, giving employers time to prepare.
This includes the much talked about day one right of unfair dismissal, planned to come into effect in Autumn 2026. Workers will be subject to a proposed nine-month probation period when their employment can still be terminated without a full process.
Changes are anticipated for unfair dismissal, statutory sick pay, harassment at work, flexible working, fire and rehire, collective redundancy consultation, bereavement leave, pay and zero-hours contracts.
