Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the US Military. For many Americans, it also starts the summer season. Many pools are traditionally opened Memorial Day weekend. This year in particular will most likely mark the first day of travel for many in a while to visit friends and loved ones.

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day, and many people visit cemeteries and memorials over the weekend. Due to the long weekend, it became a regular occasion for family reunions and picnics. According to AAA, nearly 37 million Americans are expected to take some sort of trip this weekend which is about 60% more than last Memorial Day weekend.
