What Does This Mean?

One of my posts this past Sunday went viral a few hours after I posted. Over 126,000 people around the world "viewed" the post.

On Sunday morning, I came across a post by Katty Mount with the following graphic: "I can't get a job because I don't have experience or I don't have expense because I can't get a job".

I thought it was an interesting graphic and connected with some of the messages in my newly released book. I decided to share her post with my thoughts as follows:

?The “Permission Paradox” described in this post by?Katty Mount?is a challenge facing many during their careers and can be a paralyzing obstacle to overcome for many aspiring leaders.
In my newly released book: The Odyssey of Self-Discovery: On Becoming A Leader (https://lnkd.in/g7kZcpY3), I discuss how to be ready when opportunity knocks but more importantly how to create opportunities outside of the traditional organization-based approach.?
On the one hand, the world is becoming increasingly dynamic and unpredictable. Leaders are required to be adaptive, agile, and nimble to cope with the seismic shifts. The traditional defined career path may not work anymore.?Aspiring leaders today must remain nimble since navigating the unexpected is increasingly becoming the new normal.?
On the other hand, one has to define the sphere of influence in order to make an impact on business as well as their career. I share a "two circle theory of leadership" which define the framework to exert influence and become a leader in order to get out of the "permission paradox".?

For whatever reason, this post went viral in a few hours after I posted and continued through the last two days. here are a few observations:

  • Most of the people who reacted to the post was from the "Tech" or "Service" industry. I suspect the recent wave of tech layoff impacted not only the tech companies themselves, but also many more contractors who were providing services to the tech industry.

  • My original post was more intended towards people who are striving for leadership positions from their current roles. However, many of the comments seem to be from people who are looking for jobs.
  • About 50% of the 280,000 subscribers to my weekly newsletter are from the US. For most of my newsletters and posts, the top locations for people who read the newsletter tend to be Houston, New York, San Francisco, London, Delhi. For this post, the top three locations are all from India (Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chemmai) with SF and LA as the other two.

What does this all mean?

What you do and share on Linkedin can, knowingly or unknowingly, have a positive influence on others decisions.

Knowing that many of the 126,000 people who read my post might have benefited from the message some way is very comforting and rewarding!

I like the issue and your reflections. I have a similar challenge and I do not know the reason why I failed in my attempt. I never apply to a job if I do not have related qualification and experience. I receive a regret letter that states "we regret to inform you that e have taken another candidate, If I appear for interview and written test I can assume that the selected person outperformed in the written test or interview. Shall I say that I am not short listed because I have not written my CV and application in Queen's English. surprisingly, the same holds true hen I start business. what is your advise
