What Does it Mean to be a Servant Leader?

In modern corporate America, does it sometimes seem all that matters to senior management is what the numbers will be on the next quarterly earnings report?

Does it also seem that some corporate leaders will climb over people to claw their way up that corporate ladder?

To these executives, the issues driving their careers are who has the bigger house and better toys.?

In the end, it’s all about money.

Maybe there’s a better way.?

For corporate leaders, rather than treating employees as nameless, faceless interchangeable parts of a machine, maybe they can act as servant leaders. Servant leaders ask themselves, “How can I serve my staff today?” and “How can I serve my customers today?”

Successful servant leaders set up their employees to also succeed. They provide employees with positive reinforcement. They also try to create a work environment such that employees enjoy coming to work each day.?

Servant leaders know it’s not about them. Rather, they are other centered; they see their staff as real people, with feelings, desires and hope.?

The “bottom line” for servant leaders is that it’s all about serving Christ.

And one of the best ways to serve Christ is to serve those around you- at home, in the community and in your company.
