In the German capital of Berlin there are still around 33,000 gas lamps that light the streets. All are in a technically perfect condition. As silent contemporary witnesses the gas lanterns have withstood the eventful history, they are an integral part of Berlin's identity.
With "Lesser", the public artwork by Olaf Nicolai in Breitscheidstrasse in Berlin, the artist has created a historical reference that also alludes ironically to the muselaic tendencies of urban concepts in European inner cities.
Arnold AG technically developed this 16.0m high and around 4 tons heavy public artwork as a fully functioning gas lantern, we submitted the building application and obtained the building permit, manufactured and installed it from perfectly mirror-polished stainless steel.
