What does it mean to exist?

One Sunday morning I woke up with anxiety that led to a full tearful release of many emotions. This feeling was a reaction to the latest news of the Fearless Fund lawsuit, a targeted attack on diversity efforts. Why target Black women? I thought. Haven't we been through enough already? One of the most marginalized groups of women in society, not just about historic discrimination and sexism, but continuing current ills of the maternal health crisis, wage gaps, solo family rearing.
Haven't we had enough oppression? I think there should be a limit to the numbers one ills one group of people can sustain. Shouldn't there be a handout for a society that has taken our wealth, our children, and our men. Reparations, affirmation action, anything, a signal of the damage that is need of repair.
In the sisterhood, you come for one you come for all of us. I am one with my sisters. We must all equip ourselves in response. Dust off the tears, put on our lip gloss on and mentally arm ourselves for these brazen attacks of hate and bigotry.

I am a fighter, my mother was fighter in the Watts riots, my grandmother was a fighter in the Jim Crow south. When challenges come, we are brave, because we know we are fighting for our existence. In an effort to be seen, heard, validated, valued, congratulated, affirmed, and respected, we keep on keeping on. My hope and prayer is that we will get some well-needed relief, resources, protection, so we that way can sustain, prosper, and thrive.
