?? WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE IN ALIGNMENT? ??
Hello, my friends!
Today I’d like to share with you a little bit about alignment.
This is one of those words you might hear kicked around a lot these days.
And it’s a really important concept, but it can be a bit tricky.
So, what is alignment, and what does it mean to be in alignment?

Alignment, in simple terms, is when all the bits line up.
So if we were talking in terms of physical alignment, think about lining up a really simple shot at the pool table.
Any two balls are in alignment relative only to one another. But we look for shots that are close to alignment with one of the pockets.
With an easy shot, the two balls are close enough to alignment with the pocket to make it work.
In athletics, we move in alignment when we maintain good form, and this alignment is reflected in the physical performance of the action.
When we’re out of alignment, performance suffers and the move may actually cause us harm.
When people are in alignment, they are agreed as to a particular outcome or approach.
And when people are in alignment like this, they function more smoothly as a unit. When people are not in alignment with one another, energy is wasted and conflict arises.

When we discuss alignment in personal terms, we look at all the parts of our being, and see whether they’re acting in agreement, or if they’re working against one another.
Humans are both incredible and really complicated.
In every moment of life, we simultaneously experience things in the physical, the mental, and the emotional.
When our thoughts, emotions, and actions line up with one another, we are unstoppable. But if our thoughts, emotions, and actions are out of alignment, we resist ourselves at every turn.
Alignment, in this context, is closely related to integrity.
To operate with integrity is to operate from a space where all parts of ourselves are in cooperating, integrated and working in harmony.
To be in integrity is to act in alignment.

And there’s another huge and powerful aspect to this as well.
We each have values, desires, needs.
When our thoughts, emotions, and actions are out of alignment with our values, then we are using our precious creative energy to create things that we don’t care about, that we don’t truly want to create.
When we are out of alignment with our needs, then we are not using our actions, emotions, and thoughts to support the fulfillment of these needs.
When we are out of alignment with our desires, we might achieve great success, in the terms offered to us, and still feel hollow, unmet by life.
In each case, we have been acting in the service of only part of our being.

The path to alignment begins with learning to listen to ourselves, to hold space for our feelings, learning to process them.
This brings us to our thoughts, our stories about the world, about ourselves, about life.
We then begin cultivating the stories that serve what we truly care about. Learning how to forge healthy, supportive relationships with our stories.
We feel out and process these bits of old charge and story. And each bit of unconscious story that we reclaim brings a bit more of us into alignment.
And, finally, we learn how to show up in the world with clarity, intention, and grace, taking action informed by our heart and mind.

When we are in alignment, we can move forward full power, doing things almost effortlessly that felt impossible for us in the past.
The journey of alignment is a living, growing process, never over, always softening and deepening. Leaning in and surrendering.
And every moment of this journey, every step along the way, brings more life, light, and joy into our lives and into the world.
This is one of my favorite aspects of the journey, and one that I absolutely love to share. The gateway to an intentional life, full of joy and inspiration, rich with meaning.
