What does Magnetism (as in physics) have in common with Leadership of a team?
When I was 13 in my first Physics lesson at high school I clearly remember the teacher coming in and showing us a plain old steel or iron bar. He asked one of the kids to see if they could pick up some nails with the bar? Clearly they couldn't!
Then he stroked the bar a few times with a magnet and then asked the same kid to try again! Hey presto, like magic it worked!!
That's because the stroking of the magnet aligned all the individual cells in the bar to north-south like the magnet itself and suddenly "aligned", the bar had more power.
That's what a Leader does every day in an organisation ... by reminding and motivating around the vision-mission-goals - they take a "rabble" and turn them into an aligned team ... that can "eat" the competition!!
