What Does Disrupt Aging Look Like?

If, as the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, I wonder how many a video is worth?  A 100,000? A million?  More, less?  I suppose it depends on the video.

This one below, which looks at how people think about aging (their own and that of others), has been viewed more than 14 million times in the last couple of weeks, mostly from being shared across social media.  If you haven’t seen it, or would like to see it again, I’m embedding  it here and below.

I’ll let the video speak for itself, but will share a brief back story.   We’d been thinking about how we could depict the concept of Disrupt Aging in a compelling, visual way.  No graphs or charts – something more engaging and human...

So, in the guise of “filmmakers” we put out a casting call for young actors to audition for a film that had something to do with the subject of aging (we were purposefully vague.)   We weren’t sure what we’d get, or how it would all play out, but in the spirit of a big part of being successful at something is not being afraid to fail at it, we went for it.

What we came up surprised us (in good ways) and, most importantly, it made the point we hoped it would.

Hope you like it.

Watched the video and thought about all the possibilities we have to dispel our notions of what aging means. Even in my own circle, the younger folks tend to lump everyone into the "over 50 crowd", blurring lines among the tapestries that are woven with our individual experiences. It is so easy to do. Even asking the question "What is old?" can contribute to the perception when taken out of context. A great reminder, and great video!

Video just supports my belief, age is a state of mind. Just written a book I'm 77 and I am contributing to life in many ways. "THE WAY OUT of depression and stagnation" to help people live a happier, more fulfilled life. Would be great for AARP members or any age www.jacklynkbrownauthor.com

Hello Jo Ann. I am reading the book disrupt aging you wrote and has being a blessing for me. Also I am learning so much about aarp what I didn't before and the benefits to be a member. I am looking for a new health insurance because the one I had before I didn't get pretty much any benefits and I can't afford a expensive one. I am 60 years older , health and energetic but of course in this age we need a health insurance just in case. Hope you can help me with aarp. Thanks so much for all your advised. Sincerely Lucia
