What Does Depression & Anxiety Look Like? 5 Ways To Improve Your Mental Health At Work Or Home.

I lost a dear friend this week to the 22!

Mental health is a critical component of our overall well being, but yet it is often times overlooked or played down. Depression and anxiety can manifest in many different ways, often subtly, making them difficult to recognize and address.

In this post, we will explore what depression and anxiety REALLY look like and share five effective ways to improve your mental health both at home and at work.

UNDERSTANDING DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY:

Depression and anxiety are not just feelings of sadness or stress: they are complex mental health conditions that can have profound impacts on an individuals daily life, yes I have struggled with this my whole life.

DEPRESSION MIGHT LOOK LIKE:

Persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or emptiness not just "Feeling Blue", loss of interest in activities once enjoyed, significant changes in appetite or weight.

Insomnia or excessive sleeping, fatigue or lack of energy, difficulty concentrating. making decisions or remembering things, physical symptoms like headaches or stomachaches without a clear physical cause. I know when I am getting down my sleep is way off.

ANXIETY MIGHT LOOK LIKE:

Excessive worry or fear about everyday situations, restlessness or feeling on edge, irritability, muscle tension or physical discomfort.

Panic attacks, yes they are REAL, which may include heart palpitations, sweating, and shortness of breath, avoidance of situations that trigger anxiety, difficulty controlling feelings of worry.

Recognizing these signs in yourself or others is the first step towards seeking help and making positive changes, honesty is everything.

5 WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR MENTAL HEALTH:

Improving mental health requires a proactive approach and consistent effort. Here are five strategies I have used and teach my clients to enhance your mental well being at work and home.

PRACTICE MINDFULNESS AND MEDITATION:

Like Jon Macaskill talks about, mindfulness involves staying present and fully engaging with the moment you are in.

Meditation can help reduce stress and anxiety, improve focus and promote emotional health, even just a few minutes of deep breathing or guided meditation each morning can make a huge difference. Since I started doing this after my interview with Jon and Will, my life has become so much better.

ESTABLISH A HEALTHY ROUTINE:

Like James Clear talks about in his amazing book (ATOMIC HABITS) most of what we do everyday is just habits, change your habits change your life!

Consistency in daily routines can provide a sense of stability and control. Ensure you get enough sleep, eat well, and exercise regularly.

Working out, even a short walk, can boost your mood and energy levels, I listen to Audible books and play PoKeMoN Gaming while walking each day, yes I know I am a geek lol. Hey whatever works!

SET BOUNDARIES AND MANAGE STRESS:

JUST SAY NO!

Learn to say no and set limits to avoid overcommitting, identify stressors in your life and develop strategies to manage them.

This could include time management techniques, delegating tasks, or simply taking breaks when needed. I strongly suggest using a calendar like 谷歌 calendar or Calendly they are a life saver.

STAY CONNECTED:

Strong social connections are vital for mental health. Make an effort to maintain relationships with friends, family and team members.

Talk to someone you trust about how you are REALLY feeling, and do not hesitate to seek professional help if needed, if you are struggling right now dial #988.

HAVE FUN AGAIN:

Taking time for activities you enjoy can provide a sense of accomplishment and joy. Whether it is reading, gardening, playing guitar, video games, or any other hobby engaging in something you love can significantly enhance your mental well being.

CONLUSION...

Depression and anxiety are serious mental health issues that require attention and care.

By recognizing the signs and taking proactive steps to improve mental health, you can create a more balanced and fulfilling life.

Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength not weakness.

As always THANK YOU :) for being a HUGE part of our success and letting us be a small part of yours.

Great post, Richard. Depression and anxiety affect so many people, especially after what we went through with the COVID-19 pandemic.
