What does brand transparency mean to your brand?

Today, I want to talk to you about a topic that is close to my heart but often goes unexpressed.

See it as a way to polish your writing and freelancing skills.

How Transparency Can Strengthen Your Brand Story

Our current world is full of curated feeds, polished perfection, and more insincerity than ever.

But do you know that vulnerability can be a powerful storytelling tool for your brand?

Be a writing and freelancing elite

Here's why:

People connect with authenticity.

Sharing your

  • brand's struggles,
  • challenges, and
  • even past mistakes build trust and creates a sense of shared experience.

People identify or connect with emotions that they have experienced or have the potential to experience.

Vulnerability humanizes your brand.

Don't hide behind the success stories.

Let your audience know you are human.

If your audience or client chose you, they probably would have seen some vague and distant brands.

They came to you because they felt connected in some ways.

Let vulnerability do its work in your brand.

Remember, it allows you to connect with your audience on an emotional level, making you more relatable and memorable.

Transparency builds credibility.

By being open and honest, you show that you have nothing to hide, which strengthens your brand's reputation.

If you accept a task and some challenges, come up along the way, be brave and talk about them.

Most times, your clients will see the value of transparency and honesty in you.

So, how can all of these be put into action when writing or navigating your freelancing journey?

How do you weave vulnerability into your brand story?

  • Share your origin story. Talk about the inspiration behind your brand, the initial hurdles you faced, and how you overcame them.
  • Highlight customer challenges. Focus on the problems your customers face and how your brand helps them overcome those challenges, even if it means acknowledging the limitations of your product or service.
  • Show your human side. Feature your team members, their stories, and their passions. Let your audience see the real people behind the brand.

Remember:

Vulnerability isn't about negativity.

It's about acknowledging the complexities of your brand journey and creating a genuine connection with your audience.

Who are some brands that are killing it with vulnerability?

Off the page, I can think of one:

  • Ben & Jerry's: Their social activism and commitment to social justice are a core part of their brand story.
  • Do you know of any other brand?

Let's spark a conversation! Share your favorite examples of brands using vulnerability effectively in the comments.

5 more reasons to be transparent as a business: ?? Trust and Belief: People trust businesses and brands they know, and you make them know you when you show them who your business is. ?? Reduced Doubt and Skepticism: When you don't make promises you can't keep as a business and you show your audience upfront what they get and what they don't get by trusting you, you leave less room for doubt and skepticism, allowing your credibility to shine. ?? Accountability and Responsibility: Transparency promotes accountability and a sense of responsibility, strengthening your commitment to what you say and do. ??Stronger Relationships: Open communication builds stronger relationships, both internally and externally. ?? Openness to Feedback and Improvement: You don't want to be one-way traffic; your goal is to get feedback from your audience. You only get that when you encourage it through openness. P.S. Do you think it pays to be transparent?
