What Does Accountability Mean to You?

Cru relationships are rooted in intentionality, accountability, commitment.? The question we ask is: How can we best support you and hold you accountable for the result you want to achieve? But what does accountability mean? Cru members share their reflections and what has been most effective in keeping them accountable to their intentions.

Nicole Gehring: Accountability means I have support and encouragement to continue being brave in taking action to complete my intentions. It also means I have a little lift from my chosen community when my courage doesn't feel like it's enough to start the next task. I started a small cohort of Cru members from across the constellation who check in on each other every day to share if we're sticking to the plan to achieve our health intentions. What I had envisioned as just being a daily accountability text message of a check mark has grown into a full blown text chain for tip drops, cheerleading, and very honest talk about how we're dealing that day. I hear from these women every day, sometimes all day. Knowing that my courage lifts their courage, and vice versa, has kept me accountable.?

Stephanie Mireku: To me, accountability is the condition of holding onto responsibility for the process or outcome of a situation. In other words, it’s keeping someone in check, and aware of the consequences in a situation. The most effective elements in keeping me accountable to my intentions include the responsibility and connection to a community of likeminded individuals, and a set timeframe. Knowing that I have my Cru supporting me and believing in my ability to manifest these intentions helps me stay motivated. Additionally, knowing that I have so much I’d like to accomplish this year at specific times, it lights a fire in me to keep pushing forward.?

Elizabeth Jablonski: Accountability means being held to your own truths. Putting my intentions out there and sharing with my Cru means they get to cheer me on and encourage me every step of the way. I have to answer to them each month and tell them where I am in the steps to reaching my goals. Life is busy so knowing I have to give my group an update pushes me to find the time to get things done, even if it’s a small step, it helps.?

Kelly Thorpe: Accountability means popping in on me periodically and asking "hey, how's that _____ coming along? Anything I can do to support you in moving further?” What has been most effective in keeping me accountable to my intentions is sharing them with others in Cru gatherings and having them posted so everyone can see them. What hinders my accountability is time and procrastination: When something challenging/new comes up, it's so easy for me to keep busy in ALLLLL the other things I have going on.

Lauren Hebbel: Actually doing the things that will move us forward. Telling another person what I am going to do out loud has been most effective. Now, someone besides myself knows if I don’t do it! Conversely, if I keep quiet and don’t share out loud I’m more likely not to hold myself accountable.??

Karla McCoy: In order to achieve goals, one must have accountability. Accountability creates commitment and commitment creates success. Creating schedules, reminders, and deadlines keeps me accountable to my intentions. I am more accountable when I’m working with a group. I procrastinate when I’m not required to share out to others.?

Brenda Bardales: Accountability is a form of self-respect. It means to be responsible for your actions and also respect your ideas by committing to them. My Cru is fantastic in helping me stay focused and meet my deadlines. I also have started journaling to be able to appreciate the hard work I have done and recognize possible behavioral patterns that could hinder my accountability.

Bianca Brown: Accountability is providing evidence of actions and performance as well as a measurement of impact. I’m more accountable to others than to myself.?

Julianne Guinasso: When I'm radically honest with myself in a compassionate way, as long as I am showing up, I am moving. Leaving room for pauses throughout my day. Little moments where I can check in with myself to see if I'm intuitively on the right track. Do I need to stretch? Do I need to move? Am I focused or scattered? These little check-ins help me stay in alignment with what I set up for my day- which in return helps me to stay accountable to my bigger arching intentions. What helps is knowing I am accountable to the other women in my group. It's up to me to share with them where I am at, and that helps me keep focused - they are cheering me on.

Accountability is so important in helping us achieve a goal. I love that the Cru is set up with this in mind. While I am generally good at holding myself accountable, there are so many places -- hello less sugar! -- that I struggle. Having my Cru there to help me has been so helpful.
