What does 2023 have in store for entrepreneurs?

2022 was a doozy of a year. While pandemic restrictions eased, the world reopened to record inflation, a war in Ukraine and now myriad economic headwinds.

What might 2023 hold? Every December, LinkedIn editors ask our community of Top Voices and creators to share the Big Ideas they believe will define the year ahead.

Author Alec Ross predicts that next year will see a rise of world-changing startups, much like the Great Recession was the jumping off point for some of today’s biggest firms.

“Economic downturns produce surges of creativity, of rethinking assumptions, and they force companies to grow up on lean protein diets that build stronger corporate bodies than the carbohydrate diets of markets with easier access to capital,” Ross writes.

While the impetus for the startup rush will be familiar, the outcome and viewpoints of the companies that are born out of the economic ashes will be more globally distributed than ever before and focused on the digital space. Silicon Valley and other U.S. markets will be home to many of the companies, Ross argues, but so too will Africa, South America, parts of Europe and southeast Asia.
