What to Do With Your Worry, Guilt, and Negative Thinking

Do you ever hold onto disappointments, resentments, or worries?
It’s so easy to let negative thoughts linger.
Maybe you doubt your ability to lead your company or organization, and thoughts of inadequacy are never far from your mind.
Or maybe you’ve long felt guilty about how you squandered your personal finances earlier in your life, and you continue to beat yourself up, even as you work to improve your financial situation today.
Or maybe you feel jealous of a competitor who seems to land new clients so easily, and anytime you lose a client or don’t land a new one, envious thoughts take you down a dark path.
Here’s the problem with this negative thinking…
Your thoughts take up time. When you’re thinking negative thoughts, you can’t simultaneously be thinking positive thoughts.
So you have to ask yourself, what percentage of time am I allocating to negativity? And how much time does that leave for positivity?
All of that negativity is taking up mental and emotional space, leaving too little room for the good thoughts that should take up brain space – confidence, creativity, productivity, achievement, prosperity, and gratitude.
We all have negative emotions from time to time, and bad things happen in life and in business. I’m not asking you to whitewash any of that. But you can make a choice.
You control what you think about.
Just like emptying the garbage, it is imperative that you empty those negative thoughts and emotions because otherwise, they’ll pile up and begin to take over.
If you’re working under extreme stress, for instance, that stress will rob you of your passion for what you do.
If you feel sorry for yourself frequently, that self-pity eats away at your confidence.
If you hold onto bitterness for a competitor or colleague, that bitterness doesn’t hurt them, it hurts you and your overall outlook.
You’ve got a limited amount of room in your mind, so take stock of what you’re giving space to. If you make room for the good stuff, you’re making space for good things to fill your business, your career, and your life.
If you can let go of the regrets and grudges, and forgive yourself and other people for what has gone wrong in your life or with your business, you’ll find that you’re happier, more productive, and more grateful.
There isn’t a limited supply of positive thoughts.
But if you’re holding on to negative thoughts, there’s no room for the positive.
Sometimes people think, “Well, I keep those times I didn’t measure up in the back of my mind so that I’ll do better next time.” But thinking negative thoughts won’t improve anything.
What will improve your choices next time is what you choose to?do. Here are my tips for taking positive action rather than thinking negative thoughts:

3 年Love this Celeste Giordano I practise Eckhart Tolle’s teaching to stay in the Present Moment. If we really think about it, most if not all negativity is due to regrets about the past or worries about the future. If we stay true to the present, and really work at it, this will inevitably lead to a more positive future.
