What do you want your people to say about you?

What do you want your people to say about you?

The daily habits of awesome leaders #4

This is a simple concept. If you are reading this, you care about the impact you have. But do we really consider the pragmatic application of our legacy? What we do or say as a leader is how people experience us.?

If we move from one meeting to the next and don’t have any time in between, we can sometimes look underprepared. We might be late. We might be impatient or say nothing. All of these are the outward business of leading. This is what we show people.?

But they don’t see our intention. Our inward focus. They don’t see all the hard work behind the scenes. The late nights or early mornings. The stewing over a presentation or a report. How careful we have been with our communication and emails. We are not measured by our internals. Yet these internal focuses are what drive our outward perception.?

Think about it. If I am conscious of how I want to show up, like really intentional then I am likely to lead better meetings. I am likely to see performance issues as they arise. I will notice interpersonal conflict. Then I can make decisions about how I will deal with these.?

Conscious leadership keeps coming back to my sense of purpose and contribution personally. Keep score by journaling or writing down what you saw the day before. If you can’t see it, you can’t control it. Just start noticing. You’ll be surprised how much the game changes just by doing this. 12,000 leaders noticed the same after making a conscious effort to notice their leadership . It made them better, not bitter.?

Do you know how your leadership truly impacts those around you? Are you intentional about the legacy you’re creating, or just rushing from one task to the next? Then check out our upcoming event ‘Understanding why leading is hard and what to do about it’ on July 17th. Register here .

Georgia Murch (GAICD) your focus on being intentional is very powerful. The event sounds like a great opportunity for others to explore this.
