Last week a local business owner called me truly frustrated and overwhelmed. He went to two business networking events and it was “a complete waste of time.” No one listened when he introduced himself. He shared with me that he is ready to close his business because he cannot figure out how to attract new customers.

If you are a business professional who wants to grow your business, start to optimize how you introduce yourself and your business in a one-on-one conversation, in groups, online, phone calls and more.
People might ask you, “what do you do,” and your response is perhaps, “hm, ah, am…. I am a business owner.”
Right away your potential customer will tune out. They did not ask you, “who are you,” they asked you “what do you do” and they are especially interested if you can solve their problem.
How to Introduce Yourself & Your Business
Start with something that grabs their attention and focuses on the outcome, the results you are delivering.
For example, I say:
Entrepreneurs, business owners, leaders and athletes (equestrians) hire me to advance, unleash their potential and take their career, business and performance to the next level.
Then highlight a few pain points your customers’ experience. For example, why do people come to you and want to buy your product(s) and service(s)?
Thirdly, briefly state the solution and ignite the dream in your potential customer to imagine what they could achieve with your product(s) or service(s).
Lastly, finish with a clear call to action.
