What do you trade for your time?

What do you trade for your time?

As we age, we often get a little philosophical.?? As you look back at your life, your education, your career, you may evaluate what you have traded for your time and what do you trade every day for the time we are given???

?

Many people spend twenty or more years of their life preparing through education for a career in which they will earn a living, have a position to obtain a home or rent, and build a nest egg for when your earning days come to an end.?? In an ideal situation, you have selected a career that meets your objectives and provides you with a sense of achievement or a continued opportunity to learn.? You have arrived at a compensation package to which you are comfortable providing your time, effort and knowledge.?? You have made a trade and for many people, they are comfortable with the terms and conditions until one day you either want more or the organization decides they want to exchange you for someone else.???? When we work with clinicians, one of the key aspects of any role to consider is how much time, effort and knowledge you are willing to trade and what is the value to you of your time, effort and knowledge??? Are you pricing yourself competitively with others who may have similar knowledge and work ethic??? Our recruitment team provides our clinicians with a fair market value based upon the level of expertise and the amount of time and effort each clinician is willing to put forth. ??This value changes over time based upon the simple economic law of supply and demand.?? When there is an abundance of individuals vying for the same limited opportunities, the value drops and conversely it is higher when the demand is higher.

?

What can you do to ensure you are receiving the appropriate value for your time, effort and knowledge??? First, understand the market in which you reside and what the supply and demand is of individuals with your expertise.?? We can quickly identify the market based on data collected from multiple sources.?? Second, what differentiates you??? What makes you stand out??? Perhaps you achieved a new certification or have a skill set in a new technology??? Maybe you have specialized in an area which is in short supply??? Third, understand what is important to you in life.?? If you prefer to have more of your time, you may make less, but the time you spend doing the things you enjoy and being with the people you care about is time well spent.?? Afterall, our time here is finite, and no one knows exactly when the time is up for each of us, so it is important to spend your time wisely.?? Enjoy life, enjoy your vocation, enjoy interacting with and helping others.?? Time seems to go faster the older we get and when our time is up, we should be happy with how we spent it and what we traded our time for.
