Why you should adopt an edge strategy

Cameras, sensors, drones, social media, streaming services... There are many edge devices that allow the collection of unstructured data in real time. Given this, IDC estimates that of the 175 zettabytes of data expected to be generated worldwide by 2025, 80% will be unstructured.
And what does unstructured data mean? It doesn’t have a clear schema and values, such as multimedia content, text files, mobile and communication data and spreadsheets. On the contrary, structured data has a defined schema and a bounded set of potential values such as temperature data, vibration tracking or map coordinates.
The insights created from this data and that can be transformed into actions have the capacity to add great value to organizations in the most varied sectors. But the truth is that, today, 90% of unstructured data is not analyzed or used.

The transformational potential of the edge
Collecting raw data (especially real-time data at the edge) is important, as well as being able to clean it, analyze it and make it readily available for rapid use in AI/machine learning models and across the organization, so that it’s possible to make real-time, actionable decisions anywhere.
?
Let’s take the health sector as an example. With a diverse set of edge use cases, such as remote patient care, patient monitoring in the hospital, and real-time data from an ambulance in flight or on the road, data is distributed across many platforms and locations and has varying levels of sensitivity. The use of edge computing allows medical professionals to process data locally, generating a real-time understanding of the patient's condition, without the need to expose it to external systems or the risk of a breach. Depending on the need, data can be immediately destroyed, summarized and uploaded for long-term or cross-system tracking, or retained for trend analysis and further training of AI models on a data platform.
?
Another interesting point to mention is that data-driven companies are 8X more likely to record a growth of 20% or more compared to those companies that have been just starting out on this journey, according to a Forrester study .
?
The same study also points out that these businesses are:

-?????? 14X more probably to use AI and discover new revenue sources from AI;
-?????? 13X more inclined to use customer lifetime value analysis and insights that enrich the already existing relationships.
-?????? 16X more likely to leverage data, analytics and insights that generate competitive differentiated experiences and offerings.

Understanding, planning and acting
The first point to keep in mind is that there is no one-size-fits-all strategy in adopting edge computing. Each company and different sectors need to implement approaches in line with their specific needs.
?
With the organization's requirements already listed, it’s time to rely on a trusted IT provider who will help define, implement and manage this environment. Parenthesis to say how proud I am that today 81% of Fortune 100 corporations count on Dell Technologies edge solutions to help drive their business and transformational results.
?
Then, when your infrastructure is ready to quickly leverage data in real time, anywhere and on demand, this will be the right moment to grow. The new capabilities will allow you to generate immediate insights, which will be turned into actions, innovations, and competitive advantage.

Unlock the full potential of the edge and take your organization to the next level!
