What do you really 'own' in the coaching business?
Shubham Mittal
Strategic advisor for coaches/ mentors to validate their strategies and decisions so they can be confident before implementing them
As a coach/ mentor, it is essential to understand what an asset in your business is.
Most focus on building a huge social media following.
But the question is - do they own it?
No.
Tomorrow, if FB decides to revoke your account for any unforeseen reasons...
You're left with nothing.
Because you don't own followers.
You can't build personalised relationships on an ongoing basis.
You can't reach them again.
Your entire hard work to accumulate followers goes in vain.
That sounds negative, but wait...
Have you not seen people losing their social media accounts?
Of course, if you're like Ranveer Allahbadia , and get your account back...
That's amazing.
But even in that case, I would argue it's important to have an asset and not solely rely on social media following.
And what is that asset in the coaching/ mentoring business?
It's your email list.
You own it.
You can shift the platforms without losing any of your members.
You can build relationships with them by sending personalised emails.

You can sell them your offers.
You can ask for feedback.
You can provide value.
Essentially, you will retain your earning potential with your email list even if you lose all your social media followers.
So, the question for you is this...
Do you have a real asset in your coaching/ business or just a fictitious asset?
Btw, I love using these CA terminologies while discussing marketing concepts because of my background.
Ok. back to point again.
Just imagine the power of having an asset that continues to give ROI—not only in the short term but also in the long term.
But here is the sad part...
In India, many coaches are in the bubble of acquiring new customers with performance marketing but don't pay enough attention to their email lists.
Yesterday, someone said why people stay engaged on the email list. Is it because of the subject line or the body copy?
My response was - relationship first.
If you just try new subject lines because a famous marketer told you to use...
It may work in the short term, but are you playing the game for the short term?
As a coach/ mentor/ thought leader, my question to you is this...
Have you considered the real impact of having an optimised email list for your business, or has it become an ignored aspect of your business?
