What Do You Need While Pursuing a New Skill?
No matter how people discuss 2020 as a wasted year, some are coming out of it stronger than before. In fact, this is the year I'm actually having productive conversations with different people, and we share some powerful insights into the creative industry. I cannot do comedy, but I know what is needed to be successful in this field. I can't make music, but I have the skills in personalities that one should have while pursuing this career. Maybe I can't be the best manager or leader, but I can tell a good leader quality.
But…. that shouldn't be the topic of discussion for more than 5 seconds. I guess it won't make sense since you might be feeling like I have too much pride and brag a lot! Hehehe, that's what everyone always feels when the painful reality hits them.
And here is the reality,
A few weeks ago, I was approached by two upcoming comedians who wanted to nurture their online presence and to optimize their content for a wider reach. It was a fantastic conversation since it made me reflect on my past experience when starting my digital career. I remember my mentor telling me", "Movine you need to have money, kijana tafuta pesa for you to enjoy the learning process." I felt he was criticizing me too much and not ready to help.
I kept asking myself the role of money in this process, yet I should earn from it. But later on, I realized it was a painful reality or truth. When exploring a skill from scratch, you need money to facilitate your pieces of training and productions. If you're a blogger; you need money for setting up, managing, and marketing your blogs.
If you're a comedian, you need money to facilitate productions and marketing. Music or any other skill follows the same financial tunnel; YOU NEED MONEY.
But where can you get money when you're starting? You can get sponsorship from family members, friends, and church members, and it's only applicable when one has any of them. In case you have none, then you need to look for a job, whether it's a low-level job, just try to bury your pride, and take or accept it as a backup plan for your dream career. Raise money to help you in running your activities.
So, I shared the same thing with the two guys, and they were happy about it. They promised to take any job, and they will let me know about the progress. I promise to help them set their online presence for a free and free consultation at any point they need me. Helping someone shouldn't' t be based on finances, but a word or advice can also serve the same purpose.
