What Do You Need The Most To Achieve A “Goal”? - Context Or Control

In a leader’s mind, he is handy with a roadmap and a goal. A path he is dedicated to and wants the same from his team members. A true leader communicates the collective goals to his members. Minimum of which is achieved if you control or force someone towards perfection.?

Communication Wins Over Control - All The Time

In my experience, the weakest link in the entire process is communication or lack of it. Organizations or teams fail because the leader forgets to communicate both the context and content of the task. Thus, in want of the context, leaders often resort to “control”.

But, what does control do? The answer, it takes away the initiative from the team. It takes away the privilege of being whole-heartedly focused on the tasks and understanding what they are working for? Reed Hastings, in his book No Rules Rules, strongly advocates leadership through context, not control.

Geeta Gives Context To Arjun Helping Him Win The War

Although, Arjun has always been a great warrior, what made him win the Mahabharat war was words from Geeta. Savvy about the higher goal - higher than any materialistic need he was fighting for.?

Arjuna the greatest warrior of the time wavers at the start of the war. Later, his conversation with Krishna at the time of his self-doubt helps him fight and win the war. But what changed from before??

Geeta gave him the context. He understood why he was fighting and for what he was fighting. Initially, when he came into the battlefield his head was filled but his heart was empty. While Krishna helps him clear his mind, filling his heart with the cause.?

You cannot be perfect at all times, but you can be focused and dedicated at all times. After all, it's the ultimate goal and perseverance that matter.

It Is About Goals?

“Learning is a privilege that perfectionists refrain from”.?

“No one is born perfect”. Seeking perfection out of literally anything will give you nothing but disappointment in the end. As I have always said before we give up our lives and dreams trying to chase the impossible we should always investigate the details

Knowledge Without Focus Is Dangerous - Conclusion

Krishna never gave Arjuna the superpowers to win. Instead, the almighty showed him the context - an ultimate goal for which he was fighting. This helped him win the war. Arjuna had the power - he needed focus. The same happens with talent. Knowledge without a positive goal is very dangerous.? Osho had once said, “too much knowledge without training on how to use it is very dangerous”. And I could not agree more.
