WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY LEAN?!

The Lean methodology relies on 3 very simple ideas:
- deliver value from your customer’s perspective
- eliminate waste (things that don’t bring value to the end product)
- continuous improvement
Practical Hints:
I took dinner at one of the restaurants where they presented KEBAB in a big dish full of salad that can suffice 2 persons, I ate the Kebab and I discarded 70% of the salad. However, I was not satisfied because I felt that poor people are in need of those 2/3.
If I were the QHSSE manager at that restaurant, I would reduce the amount of salad presented at each dish ( principle 2, eliminate the waste), utilize the cost of that salad in presenting a drink free of charge ( less than the cost of the wasted salad, because the salad took time and effort in the preparation, storage, and presentation ), so that the quality of the served dish will improve by adding the beverage ( Principle 3 = continuous improvement )
As far as principle 1 is concerned, just ask yourself beside the Kebab, what do I need else?
- Your answer is ( the beverage ) carries the signature of the client perspective ( principle 1 = deliver value from your customer’s perspective )
I hope that this simplification will help you how to implement the lean philosophy.
