What Do You Do After You “Y.A.C”?
First off this is not what you think. This is not getting ill and “tossing your cookies”.?Also, this is not the euphemism for “yacking” on the phone for hours on end. This Y.A.C. is about determination, drive, pushing forward, staying motivated even after getting hit on the playing field and life.
Y.A.C. is a term used in football; Yards After Contact, is the amount of yardage gained from an offensive player after initial contact from a defender in football. The offensive player, running back or receiver, keeps moving the ball forward to the goal line after avoiding a tackle. It’s impressive when a player gets hit hard, and they still don’t get tackled. They keep going, gaining yardage undeterred by the fact that they’ve been hit…all while other players are determined to knock them off course. These professional players are well paid for these positive statistics. (The more the Y.A.C., the more the JACK$$$) They lead their NFL team to more victories with the extra effort.
?This allegory represents life. How many times have you been hit? Do you fall and are “tackled” or do you “Y.A.C” forward? Gaining more ground when others thought you were finished.
?How many times you have been hit by something at work or in your personal life? How does that “hit” affect you? I’ve come to the realization that I allow the things, even the small things, knock me down rather than taking the hit and still pushing forward to gain those extra yards.
?Ask yourself the following questions.
?“What will you do next time?”?That is the real question. Is it the growth step we need to take, or getting “tackled” by circumstances and stopping? Whether you lose a sale, get passed over for that big promotion, or things just don’t go your way, your response can turn you into a champion or a runner-up defeated. Response is a key consideration. Flat out,?it's much preferable—with regard to the health of your relationships—to respond rather than react. When you respond vs. react you have thought through the situation by giving thought to your response. A reaction is an unconscious act. Responding is a conscious act. A response will come across as well thought out and less emotional.
?It’s not just business…it applies to personal life too.
?If you check the stats on the top Running Backs, they are not the best because they are the fastest or most elusive (of course that helps), they are the best because they get hit and keep going.

Put yourself in Derrick Henry’s shoes and after hit press forward. The University of Alabama, Heisman winner who plays for the Tennessee Titans just beautifully shows from 2018 what real Y.A.C is.
