What do you ACTUALLY do?

What do you ACTUALLY do?

Over the last few months I've spoken to loads of people about their business struggles. There's a really common thread in these chats..

The business is struggling because they don't know what their market position is.

?

They've got a business and either they don't know what they're selling, or to who, or the people they thought they were selling to aren't interested. Nobody's buying!

?

Really, most of the time they're only aware of that last point and haven't worked out the why behind it.

?

Let's break that down:

They haven't identified their customer base.

OR;

They haven't worked out what matters most to their customers.

?

Either way it's not a recipe for success.

?

I've seen restructuring plans, and I've heard stories about marketing the heck out of things, but none of the key people in the business had actually planned to go back and put work into positioning themselves/their business.

?

That's just delaying the inevitable while spending a shitload of money in-between.

?

If your business isn't doing as well as it used to. If your sales have dried up quicker than a braided river in summertime, then the first thing you need to do is go back to basics and figure out what's missing.

What do you do? And who do you do it for?

?

Go deeper again. What do those people, your ideal customers, want.

?

Not what you think they want. What do they actually want?

How do you fit into that equation?

If you're having trouble working this out, it's time to get an outside perspective.

Ready when you are...

Pssst. This isn't a fresh thought. The people on my email list got it a week before LinkedIn did.

Can I get a "HELL YEAH" for 'go back to basics'. So many times I see very entrenched services businesses that have been able to make it work for quite a while and they slow down rapidly. They step further and further away from core messaging, core offering and core value delivery. Nailing it Sel.
