What do whisky and laptops have in common?
What do Whisky and Laptops have in common? You’re probably thinking don’t spill your whisky on your laptop, and you’re right, but that’s not it. Let’s position Laptops first, purely because there is such a massive demand as a result of the worldwide #Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, demand for Laptops continued to increase as more and more people are working from home. By the way, we have PLENTY of Desktops in our warehouse if you’re interested. I’m rambling, let’s get back to positioning Laptops. Michael Cooney, who has written about #IT for more than 25 years, and is a Senior Editor with Network World, recently reported on a study (by researchers from the Arizona State University and Rochester Institute of Technology). They found that the manufacturing phase of a Laptop, represents 62-70% of the total energy produced over the lifecycle of the Laptop. What, it sounds almost impossible that 70% of the carbon footprint of a computer is during manufacturing. That means, if we could eliminate energy during manufacturing, we could reduce carbon footprint. #bestadvice I know what you’re thinking, how do we eliminate energy during manufacturing? Well, we don’t, but those same researchers say that extending the lifespan of the Laptop, is an important strategy to manage the “life cycle energy” thereof. So, using refurbished #ITassets is in fact a green strategy! We all know that from even before 2020 everyone is moving from “Eco-status” to “Eco-shame”…. Yes, being green is no longer just a status symbol in your company’s #marketing messages, you will in fact be shamed on #socialmedia if you’re NOT going green (Eco-shame) So, how does any of this, have anything in common with Scotch Whisky? Earlier this week, Diageo, the world’s biggest spirit maker, announced that they made a major breakthrough in “paper-bottle” technology. Yes, you heard it, paper-bottles and paper-bottles actually contain no plastic. There’s been increasing pressure on consumer product companies to decrease the use of plastics in their packaging for obvious #sustainability concerns. You can read more here: https://www.rte.ie/news/business/2020/0713/1152969-diageo-100-plastic-free-paper-based-spirits-bottle/ So, as from 2021, Johnny Walker Scotch Whisky will come in plastic-free paper-bottles! WOW Scotch Whisky going green! Well done Diageo that’s real #innovation! Now then, drinking Scotch Whisky from paper-bottles and, using refurbished Laptops can both be seen as GREEN INITIATIVES, right? I bet you never thought Scotch Whisky and Laptops have anything in common… but now you know. Let’s help your company to go green by reducing your carbon footprint with refurbished technology.
