Are you knee-deep in a job hunt that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere? You are not alone, because a lot of professionals have felt that way at least once in their lives. Sometimes, it is difficult to get your job search on track when it feels like the whole universe is conspiring against you winning the job of your dreams.
One of the biggest mistakes many job seekers make is to rely solely on online job boards when searching for their next opportunity. Job boards are not the only resource you have for your job hunt. Today, our career experts will tell you what you can do when your favorite job board has failed you.
Deviate a little
Instead of sticking to the mainstream online job boards, look for niche job sites. Local and niche sites can come to your aid where the most popular job boards in the world fail you. First, find a few niche sites related to your industry, location, or profession. If you are looking for remote or temporary opportunities, there are job sites dedicated to those kinds of jobs as well.
Use social media
Many employers use their social media channels to advertise job openings for several reasons. Social media posts are often free where employers sometimes have to pay a small fee to post a vacancy on a job board. Social media also has a wider reach, even in the audience of people who are not actively seeking jobs but would like to try out for a great opportunity. When searching for a job, stay tuned to the social media channels of your target employers.

Talk to your friends
Did you know that most people get hired through their professional network? Use your professional network to learn about new opportunities before they make it to the public. Also, your professional network can help you set up informational interviews with professionals who are already working in your target role and company. Your professional network can also provide excellent references for your job applications.
Use company websites
Create a list of your target companies and make routine checks on their websites. Most employers post new job openings on the “Careers” page on their websites. You can also visit the LinkedIn pages of your target businesses to check for job openings. This will help you notice job openings before they make their way into online job boards.
Invest in your interview performance
Sometimes, no matter how many jobs you apply for, you can’t get a foot through the door because of your poor interview performance. If you have plans to attend a few job interviews in the coming week, start your interview prep a few days earlier. Set aside professional clothing for you to wear to the interview and practice answers to common interview questions. It would be best if you also created a good elevator script to introduce yourself at the interview.
