What to Do When the "IT" Hits the Fan

The Five Women were unique in many ways, but alike in the most important ones.

Annie wanted to finish writing her book, but felt “stalled.”

Beth needed a steady income flow, but felt “panicked.”

Claire longed to love herself unconditionally, but felt “blocked.”

Darlene’s desire was a complete healing from cancer, but felt “confused.”

Elaine dreamt of regaining a feeling of belonging after her husband’s death, but felt “empty.”

Each of these coaching clients were intelligent, gifted, loving and lovely women who knew what they wanted, but they were caught in an abyss between Dreaming (High-Way 1) and Daring to Do (High-Way 2).

“Have you created a vision board?” I asked each one. They had. They had gotten clear on the next things they wanted to manifest, and then, before they could take a risk, IT showed up. The IT was the belief that what they were feeling was somehow wrong, and therefore IT got labeled as stalled, panicked, blocked, confused and empty. In each case, they felt that a big red flag was flying over their heads that read, “DANGER.”

When the “IT” hits the fan in your life, the keys to change are Process and Promise.

Reframing your “IT”

We reframed what was happening as simply “what is,” rather than “a problem.”

  • Stalled got reframed into “a hiatus.”
  • Panicked got reframed into “laser focused.”
  • Blocked got reframed into “face-to-face with her pain.”
  • Cancer got reframed as “The Visitor” and confused got reframed into “curious.”
  • Emptiness got reframed into “openness.”

Then from that softer place, each woman asked the Process question, “What is mine to do?” She then made a Promise to herself and to me that she would do it.

The Process and the Promise

Annie found a writing partner. They scheduled weekly get-togethers from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. each Wednesday and Friday until their books were finished. PROCESS found. PROMISE kept.

Beth joined Dave Ramsey’s class and a Networking group. Even though her first networking meeting was hard, she kept going back. PROCESS found. PROMISE kept.

Claire joined Al-Anon and later a study group for “A Course in Miracles.” She read the daily passage, went to weekly meetings, found a sponsor, and listened to the ACIM videos on self-love until they started to sink in. PROCESS found. PROMISE kept.

Darlene invited clarity into her Spiritual journey by journaling to the Divine each day with her thoughts, feelings, and questions. PROCESS found. PROMISE kept.

Elaine joined a single’s group and a tennis meetup, committing her regular attendance to each group. PROCESS found. PROMISE kept.

We can remind ourselves not to let IT overwhelm us. IT is just an old belief that is showing up to be reframed and replaced. Find a coach with a Process who will hold you accountable. Make a Promise to your coach to follow it, and watch IT transform into

Inner Transformation.

Blissings,

Recuperating from Surgery at None

7 年

When the IT hits the fan you follow the path God places before you! Just surrender to his will! We met at ST Es in Lincoln In 2010, after what actually was an unsuccessful weight loss surgery for me. Please check out my current journey on twitter at Kat D Jordan, MA for most of the story before I was hacked on facebook and lost most of everything I thought I held dear, but really, it was just memories of my complaints and lying about how happy I was, I wasn't. The pictures and cute things my kids said are precious and I will always remember the things they said, they are forever engraved in this mama bears brain ( even if I have to remind myself to eat! As for the pictures, we moved 3 times in less than a year, and God provides Gifts when we least expect in the midst of our storms! I found a box with all the baby pictures. Including the ultrasounds. How precious is that? Please follow me on twitter at Kat D Jordan, MA. I think that has most everything! From even before I was hacked on Facebook, I am also on Instagram at a @katdjordanma, and on Facebook as Kat Daniels, my stage name I chose at 13, I was going to be famous on broadway for my voice! New dream, writer and blogger, the book, God's Project, TED talk!
