What do we need to pay attention to when using MBBR technology?
MBBR is a commonly used biofilm reactor technology for wastewater treatment and water resource recovery. The following are the key points to note when using MBBR technology:
Media selection: MBBR technology relies on biofilm attachment to suspended carriers (media) for wastewater treatment. Choosing the appropriate media is crucial for the performance of the system. Media should have a high specific surface area, good adhesion and durability, and be easy to maintain and clean.
Inflow load and hydraulic retention time (HRT): Ensure that the appropriate inflow load is allocated to the MBBR system and determine the appropriate hydraulic retention time based on the characteristics and treatment requirements of the wastewater. Excessive load may lead to biofilm detachment or system performance degradation, while low load may cause media blockage and poor wastewater treatment efficiency.
Oxygen supply: MBBR systems typically require sufficient oxygen to support the biodegradation process. Ensure sufficient oxygen supply to maintain the activity of biofilms and wastewater treatment efficiency. This can be achieved by adding aeration equipment or using other oxygenation methods.
Mixing and stirring: Proper mixing and stirring can help maintain a uniform distribution of suspended carriers and promote contact between wastewater and biofilms. Choose appropriate mixing equipment and operating parameters to ensure good mixing effect and oxygen transfer.

Temperature control: The performance of MBBR systems is usually affected by temperature. Appropriate temperature control can improve the activity of biofilms and the efficiency of wastewater treatment. In cold climate conditions, heating measures or other insulation measures may be necessary.
Media maintenance and replacement: Regularly inspect and clean suspended carriers to remove sediment and dirt adhering to them. Regularly replace aged or worn media as needed to ensure the normal operation and processing effectiveness of the system.
Monitoring and Control: Establish an appropriate monitoring and control system to monitor the operating parameters of the MBBR system in real time, such as dissolved oxygen concentration, temperature, pH value, inlet and outlet water quality, etc. Adjust and optimize based on monitoring results to maintain system stability and efficient performance.
