I like to practice what I preach and I preach breaking down barriers with small easy to implement actions that can be executed consistently and regularly to build a success culture.
So in a recent team meeting with my Team #1, I asked everyone to come to the meeting to share what their favourite sweet treat is and if they had any on hand to bring it along for show and tell. My entire team works remotely so we have our weekly team meetings via video conferencing. And here you can see what my sweet treat is – this is my kryptonite, my weakness. Once I start, I can’t stop. Yes I have other favourites but these always make it onto the easy list.
So how did sharing this ‘sweet treat insight’ help with building a Success Culture?
Trust, Belonging, Connection, Happiness, Purpose, Learning and Results – we have some new team members and we are getting to know them in small bite-size chunks. Quite frankly the team members that I know well also surprised me with their favourites. Sharing a little bit about ourselves goes a long way. We found out that there are bakers in our midst and partners who don’t share the same love of treats, we bonded over similarities and were taken back to some retro favourites, like musk sticks! We laughed so hard when we heard the passion devoted to the eating of a caramel Maxibon and laughed even harder when one team member shared the origins of artificial raspberry and strawberry flavourings – it’s not pretty.
We bonded – we broke down some barriers, made small deposits into each other’s trust accounts and then we got to work with a smile on our faces.
And you never know the next time we get together, belly to belly, there may be some special treats on offer!
This is the same for every single step you implement in building your culture of success. This is about building a purpose-driven organisation, that isn't afraid of feedback, that is proud to be vulnerable and make mistakes, trust each other to get the right work done and wants results. It's about the small positive, consistent, communication and actions that help you get your edge.
What’s your favourite sweet treat?
