I started out not wanting to watch the movie, but as I watched I became engaged in the message! Remember!
Remember in Hebrew is Zakar. Remember.
The movie is about the adverse effects of forgetting. It is not about Alzheimer's, rather it is about the incidental forgetting of people from the past. The idea is that people who have passed away, are truly not dead UNTIL they are forgotten! Those who have physically died are still alive in the memories of the living. This is why Dia de Muertos is so powerful, as it remembers the dead, as they still live on in our minds!
Ok, what does that have to do with the Holocaust and General Lee? A lot actually! When we forget these events and people we forget the lessons taught. No matter if the event or lesson was bad, the lesson still needs to be learned! Yet today, we see that the lessons of the Holocaust are forgotten by the rise of pro-Hamas rhetoric!
When we destroy monuments to our memory, we lose the "dog ears" that guide us to the page that reminds us of the lesson.
When we forget the lesson of the Coco, we must relive the pain, it is inevitable!
