What do these 50 best places to work have in common?

  • The number 1 thing that makes a great place work
  • My new book “Go Live!” is out next week and I’m giving away Bitcoin!
  • But first, the painful process of change

When I sat down with the incredible Kylee Stone on her podcast Unimaginable Success, I spoke about my journey of building businesses, building myself, and the painful process of change.

Kylee asked me how I feel about mistakes and the way I look at failures is that bad things happen. It is what it is. I have all sorts of fires burning all the time. (Metaphorical ones of course ??).

And as you scale up, things get more magnified. But when it comes down to it, I actually enjoy those moments to some extent. Maybe not at first, but then I realise there are at least 2 or 3 opportunities right in that moment. That’s what you need to focus on.

In these moments there’s a process and a painful feeling of change.

Through the COVID-19 pandemic, I believe more businesses are hurting than those that are not. Something my mother taught me that I still use to this day is:

“It’s not about the problems you experience, it’s how you deal with them.”

(I also wrote about this in my new book Go Live!)

My secret hack to this? It’s the value of Go Live. Just start by taking some action and you will build momentum.

This was one of my favourite podcast interviews. Thank you for having me Kylee! To watch the full episode check it out here.

?? WHAT DO THESE 50 BEST PLACES TO WORK HAVE IN COMMON? ??

This week Finder was once again named in Australia’s Best Workplaces 2021. When I saw the list of 49 other incredible businesses, I noticed that they have some key things in common.

So what does it take to make a great place to work? ??

According to the list, you need to have a purpose and you need to put your people first.

I believe that you don’t have to have a purpose when first starting out but you should start with a clear goal. Your purpose can develop and change over time but it’s something you need to focus on and create a clear purpose eventually.

Your purpose doesn’t have to change the world. But it does have to be clear.

More importantly, these companies are focused on their people. They are passionate about putting their people first. Their crew is at the heart of their business. They are big on rewarding them and recognizing their achievements. Their people feel like they belong, it’s a fair workplace, and they feel like they get a fair share of the profits.

When you think about it, when you take away the office, the desks and computers, the machines and the shopfronts, what do you have left in your business? It’s the people that are the business. And that’s what makes a great place to work.
