What Differentiates Us

To fulfilling even more of your truth
What does your morning routine say about you? What?could?it mean to you?
You have many routines: some purposeful, some aimless, some supportive, some unhelpful.?
We all of habits of thought, mostly unconscious, like, “There’s never enough,” or “Life’s hard.” Our behaviors are a mix of mindless and mindful, too--scrolling on the phone versus taking cold showers.? Many people do spiritual practices regularly precisely to remind themselves which of these habits serve us and which don’t.?
We can neglect our power to choose habits by saying things like, “Oh that’s just the way I’ve always done it.” Or “My mother always said…” Because they’re integral to who we are, it behooves us to choose our habits and routines wisely and practice them with awareness.?
Some examples:
In Episode 20 of “Not Your Typical Leadership Coaching,” the podcast I do with IFS Coach Bill Tierney, we interviewed a great and influential coach, Hans Philips. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8N9jV2nh7I ) Hans talked about how his morning routine serves to build his confidence.???
One of the first times I remember hearing about the importance of having a morning routine was--in the last century--when I read Michael Gerber’s?The E-Myth. He talked about it as an opportunity to clear the mind to move into the day with a clean slate.
Hal Elrod’s “Miracle Morning” is?all about?feeling energized and excited.?

Many people I know use their morning routine as the time to set intentions for the day. They might read something informative or inspirational, and then choose a few actions designed to forward current goals in alignment with their life’s purpose.
The first three hours of my day include i) meditation, ii) "creating the day" in my journal, and iii) exercise. What's been most transformative--i.e. displaced frustration, cynicism, and the desire to numb out--is balancing the morning routine with i) stretching, ii) journaling to "complete the day," and iiii) meditating in the evening.
Confucius is supposed to have said: “Men’s natures are alike. It is their habits that differentiate them.”?
