I recently started working for an AI company, however, the concepts of AI, Machine Learning are still relatively new to me. There is a great deal of confusion in the market regarding some technological concepts, what each tool promises, does and what it really delivers to transform the business. Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning are some of these examples, so it is worth discussing each one to know how to differentiate them.
Artificial Intelligence
AI aims to create intelligent machines that can recognize objects, voices, faces, that have reasoning, solve problems, have the ability to plan and manipulate and move objects. This is possible from a previous programming, carried out by human beings, who will present certain characteristics for the machines, inserting abundant information related to the world. Following standards, the Artificial Intelligence machine is capable of solving problems, especially repetitive ones.
Machine Learning
In about 45 years, studies indicate that computers will be able to absorb most of the functions performed by man, such as writing a book and performing surgeries, for example. Evolution that will be possible through Machine Learning. Although there are still a few years on the path of this professional revolution, the period of learning by companies about technology is already underway. According to experts, companies that wait three or more years to dedicate themselves to understand and apply Machine Learning can lose competitiveness and space in the market, a process that can result in the death of the business. Machine Learning is a second stage of Artificial Intelligence. With a trained system, among the results of the use of technology is the greater conversion of customers, the increase of the company's relevance in the market and the reduction of human errors. In addition to performing repetitive tasks, the machine begins to learn on its own from what humans configure as right and wrong and can solve problems autonomously, without the need for programmers' interference. The predictive capacity of the machine is more assertive, although there is still no consensus regarding the possibility of it learning to discern how to act ethically.
Deep Learning
Deep Learning is a subfield of Machine Learning, a third stage of Artificial Intelligence, related to algorithms inspired by the structure and function of the brain, called artificial neural networks. In Deep Learning, algorithms are inspired by the human brain learning from large amounts of data. In the same way that humans learn from experiments, the deep learning algorithm would perform a task repeatedly, each time adjusting it a little to improve the result. The results improve with more data and larger models, which in turn require more computing to train. In summary, Artificial Intelligence is a first step, which analyzes data and provides analytical results quickly to users. Machine Learning is based on the application of AI in a second step that not only analyzes raw data, but also looks for patterns in the data that can generate more insights. Finally, Deep Learning is a third-tier application that analyzes data and its patterns going even further. The computer uses advanced algorithms developed by data scientists who ask more questions about the data with the ability to produce even more insights.
