What difference will you make in the New Year?

The New Year is already here. Looking back at last year’s challenges, most probably you have already decided on your plan for the New Year. The big question now is: how can you execute your plan in the midst of the unknown challenges of this New Year?

Strategy execution is made up of focused, high leveraged, engaging and consistent daily actions that need to be aligned in order to reach desired results. And because this fact is simple, we sometimes underestimate it.

So here is a powerful, yet simple, paradigm shift: instead of focusing on the LAG measures (the quarterly reports, the sales numbers, or the pounds lost), stressing out and biting your nails while you wait; focus on moving the LEAD measure. These are the focused, high leveraged, engaging and consistent daily actions you take to move the lag measures.

LEAD measures are different than lag measures; they foretell the result (often the lag measure). They have two primary characteristics. First, a lead measure is predictive,meaning that if the lead measure changes, you can predict that the lag measure also will change. Second, a lead measure is influenceable; it can be directly influenced by the team. That is, the team can make a lead measure happen without a significant dependence on another team.
