What a Difference a Year Makes

Exactly one year ago, our company was embarking on our most ambitious journey. We had just launched the initial Johannesburg International Flower Show and this was meant to be the South African answer to renowned international events like the Chelsea Flower Show and many others. To get this event done, we had to clear a massive patch of land in the middle of Waterfall City to turn virgin bushveld into an event area. We erected a 10000m2 flower pavilion and we had to arrange our contributors:

• 63 flower displays by South Africa's best florist
• 25 landscaped show gardens 
• 18 retailers
• 2 International judges
• 12 food vendors
• 4 bars
• 2 stages with 15 musicians
• 20 Power generators
• 10 Jojo tanks
• 60 staff members working all week

Somehow we got it all done and 15 000 people came to see our show! 

The first Johannesburg International Flower Show was not without its flaws but the crowd loved it! We had 13 television crews come to film at the event. News services from around the country sent journalists and photographers. We worked so hard that all of us lost about 10% of our body weight as we toiled in the 40 degree heat. 

As soon as the first Johannesburg International Flower Show ended, we enthusiastically listed all of the improvements that we would implement for the 2020 show. As the new year dawned, our team enthusiastically set about implementing our changes and communicating with all of the participants. By March 2020, we had everything in place and we were certain that the second Johannesburg International Flower Show was going to blow the minds of all of our visitors. We were ready....

And then Covid - 19!

We initially thought that the lockdown and hysteria would be a two or three month thing, but here we are in October and still no signs of the world returning to normal. This left us with only one option, the virtual one. In September we launched the JIFS Flower Hour which is an online production of some of the best that our floral and garden talent has to offer.

We promise that in exactly one year, you will be amazed and impressed by the second Johannesburg International Flower Show. We have been ready for months!
