What a difference a year makes!

I have been wanting to write something for a few weeks now as I have been with Hyper Recruitment Solutions (HRS) for just over a year and what a year it has been!!

Where do I start? Well, this time last year, I had started my new role here at HRS, I was in the throws of selling my house in Bristol and relocating my entire family to Essex, note to self never try moving in a pandemic again. Everything seemed to go in slow motion, lawyers were in no rush, removal people had pretty much downed tools and packing boxes for that matter. I was living in Essex in the week with in-laws (Challenging but fun) and going back to Bristol at w/ends to see my girls and pack. Moving took a lot longer than we expected but we finally got the keys in November and spent our first Christmas in Essex together (Good times)

?What I learnt in that time was that you need to remain positive, ask lots of questions and stay calm! Something I am not great at but thankfully my wife is and with her support we managed to get through and as I say enjoy our first Christmas in Essex.

?Then the new year kicked off in fine form with me testing positive for Covid (Jan 3rd to be exact) and feeling like a bag of spanners for the best part of two weeks but we soldiered on (My wife would say I moaned a lot). I started to work roles to gain a better understanding of the life sciences sector after spending the last 20 years in the tech space it was like going back to the start, but I enjoyed it all the same and was successful in placing a couple of people (never lose the magic).

?As I resourced we dealt with lockdowns, furlough, flexi furlough (Interesting) a lot of quizzing (Great fun thank you marketing) and I tried hard to ensure we kept people positive, motivated and engaged whist still looking to hire great people to the business. As the year has developed, we have gone from strength to strength and as I write this, we have just had a fantastic August performance so it feels like we very much on the up.

?What have I leant from this year apart from what HPLC is and how drugs are discovered and developed? The move although scary was the right one, I feel like I have found my place where I can add real value to a business that only wants the best for its people. I also get to work with some amazing people that really have a passion for what they do and love ‘changing lives’.
