What a Difference a Year Makes!

In January 2021 I wrote that it was an employer’s market.?Yes, what a difference a year makes.?The struggle today is to get candidates to the table, and the (poor) art of “ghosting” by candidates has risen to new heights.?Several times a week I hear from company representatives who beg to know the secret sauce that will bring a full pipeline of talented people to their door.?Guess what??There is no magic potion, nor a switch that can be flipped to bring people flocking to you if you haven’t enjoyed that luxury before.?The companies that are ?hiring effectively now were hiring effectively during the good times and are struggling less today than others.?

Why?

Because with a focus on always hiring A Players, in all economies and markets, the effective company always has a higher ratio of A Players on hand.?And who do A Players like to work (and play) with??Other A Players.?And who are they likely to refer to the company??Other A Players.?

Think about it.

It’s not just enough to to get candidates to the table - that’s a struggle in and of itself.?You want to have a hiring and selection process that helps you anticipate which of those candidates you finally get to the interview are the best of the best, and the ones you want to employ.

Smart, growing companies invest wisely, and can see the ROI in the investments they make.?Those companies are the ones who know that it takes more than slick employer-branded marketing to build a solid workforce.?Smart companies invest in understanding the intimate details of an effective hiring process.?
