The Difference Between Social Media Platforms (Why choose LinkedIn?)

The Difference Between Social Media Platforms (Why choose LinkedIn?)

What is social media?

The term “social media” refers to the means by which individuals connect in virtual communities and networks by creating, sharing, and/or exchanging information and ideas.

The major Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linked In, and YouTube profiles are managed by the Office of Communications and Marketing.

So, What Exactly Is Social Media?

Rather than utilizing a bunch of dull jargon to define the phrase, breaking it down into simpler terms may be the best approach to gain a better understanding of it. Let’s start by looking at each word separately.

The ’social’ component refers to engaging with other individuals by sharing and receiving information from them.

The term ’media’ refers to a means of communication, such as the internet (while TV, radio, and newspapers are examples of more traditional forms of media).

We can piece together a rudimentary definition from these two terms:

Social media are web-based communication platforms that allow people to share and consume information with one another.

Yes, it’s a broad definition—but remember, social media is a broad term. Without focusing too heavily on a more specialized subsection of social media, this is probably as specific as we can get.

Key Principles for Social Media Managers:

  • Social media is about conversations, community, connecting with the audience, and building relationships. It is not just a broadcast channel or a sales and marketing tool.
  • Authenticity, honesty, and open dialogue are key.
  • Social media not only allows you to hear what people say about you but enables you to respond. Listen first, speak second.
  • Be compelling, useful, relevant, and engaging. Don’t be afraid to try new things, but think through your efforts before kicking them off.

The difficulty is that there are so many social platforms on the internet today that it can be difficult to tell them apart. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of the most popular social media platforms so you can learn about their purpose and the role they can play in building your online profile.

1-?????LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a professional networking site for people who want to advance in their careers. Users establish their profiles in the same way they do on Facebook, by providing information like their work experience, career ambitions, skill set, and so on. In a nutshell, it’s a website where you may post your CV and network with other professionals in your field.

LinkedIn is all about networking, as previously said. You “connect” with other people instead of sending “friend requests.” LinkedIn feeds often contain educational materials, job postings, and anything else related to professional development or industry trends.

LinkedIn also functions as a job-searching tool. Businesses can post job openings on the platform, which users can apply to directly. LinkedIn also has a premium learning service called Lynda, which allows you to learn about almost any subject you’re interested in.

B2B enterprises will benefit the most from the platform. Business professionals network with one another in order to help each other expand their businesses. Any company, however, can use text advertisements, sponsored InMail, or sponsored content for advertising on the platform.

2-?????Facebook

What was originally a limited-access social networking platform for college students has grown into a global phenomenon known as Facebook.

Facebook is a social networking site that allows users to connect with their friends, family, and businesses, among other things. Users create a profile and fill it out with personal information such as their birth date, relationship status, and so on.

Posts, comments, photographs, likes, links, and other forms of communication are used to communicate between users.

Facebook, in theory, is a social media platform from which any business may benefit. You get access to almost every audience with such a large number of users all around the world.

The disadvantage is that establishing your brand can take a long time. Facebook has made it tough to grow an audience organically as a result of its crackdown on organic visibility. You can, however, dedicate a tiny percentage of your advertising budget to the Facebook ads manager in order to get your name out there.

3-?????Instagram

Instagram is a photo and video-sharing platform where you can establish your own account and follow other users’ photographs and videos to have them appear in your Instagram feed. On the platform, users can like, comment, and share photographs and videos.

Instagram stories, live Instagram videos, and face filters are among the platform’s other notable features.

Instagram is perfect for reaching consumers under the age of 35 because of its young user base. It’s a social media platform with a strong visual component that encourages authenticity and creativity. Influencer marketing, a developing marketing trend, was born as a result.

Businesses in the fashion, tourism and design industries gain more from Instagram than businesses in other areas that struggle to create aesthetically engaging material.

Instagram is a Facebook subsidiary as well. Any Instagram advertising you create and administer will be done through Facebook ads management.

4-?????Twitter

Twitter is a social media platform that allows users to connect with one another through tweets. Tweets are short communications that a person can put out and have their followers see or find using hashtags.

Text, photos, videos, and links can all be included in a tweet. You can also favorite, quote, and retweet other people’s tweets, which will display in your own Twitter stream.

The catch is that tweets can only be 280 characters long. The goal was to appeal to a generation of people who have trouble paying attention. You can simply get to know someone on Twitter and obtain information with just a glance.

Information is supposed to travel quickly on Twitter, which has become a hotspot for trending issues.

If you are not continually checking Twitter, it may be tough to expand your business/brand. Twitter, as previously said, is designed for quick information. If you want to see your account gain followers, you should be ready to respond to trending topics or mentions.
