Do you often get disappointed by your expectations?
Do you ever ask yourself why your expectations are what they are? Where do they stem from for the different circumstances you are in?
Since perception is reality, and we often get disappointed by our expectations why do we have so many expectations? Whether they are about people, outcomes, life situations etc. I’ve experienced this so many times in my life that I had to reflect on this topic. Why would someone else’s actions or situations that are outside of my control frustrate me? How does that benefit me?
Sometimes our expectations are too high, or unreasonable or even outrageous, yet we walk around with them. They impact us and we don't often learn our lesson to change our perspective. Have you ever pondered this? Have you had a conversation with yourself about the type of expectations you have and how they benefit you? I'm reflecting more and more because I react, at times don't think straight and get disappointed when things don't turn out the way I wanted or hoped. I aim to learn and move on. Sometimes this is a quick process and other times it's a long one. Either way, no matter how often I'm aiming to improve, I know I won't be perfect but I'm creating the practice.
It can help you from constant disappointment and frustration when life turns out to not according to plan and will allow for more enjoyment with the "interesting" twists and turns that life has for us.
