I spent a month in UK with my daughter and just got back to Singapore. Looking back the last 30 days, there are many things to introspect.
In Singapore, I never realised the importance of Sun and the weather. Winter made me realise how we take basic things for granted.
On 15th Jan, I celebrated Pongal with a Twist. I made Sweet Pongal with Quinoa and brown sugar. I couldn't find the right rice and jaggary that is traditionally used. Although I thought it was a great way to adapt and learn, I realise that in Singapore, anyone can practice their traditions without compromising.
We are more appreciative of the cultures from around the world and being a global city, all ingredients are available here.
In UK, Public transport is very expensive. I found myself walking more that what I do at Singapore. I also realised that in Tube/ Train stations/ apts, climbing stairs is very common unlike in Singapore were we have escalators/ Lifts everywhere we go.
I guess, each place has its own charm, but for me Home is the best place to be.
