What Did I Do This Year?

While we celebrate New Year four times a year (thanks to the many calendars we follow), for me, it’s January 1st to December 31st that truly counts. So, here’s the big question: What did I actually do? And how do I feel about it?

No grand resolutions, no ticking off big goals. Just focusing on the small steps?????? that were within my circle of influence was my focus when I started the year.?

Here’s what my year looked like:

  • ?I browsed endlessly, read more books than I have in years, and fell in love with words again. It also taught me the art of learning from other’s experiences
  • I started observing people—noticing their quirks, their kindness, and even their silences. As an entrepreneur, if you understand people, you understand the key to success. This continues to be a work in progress
  • I put in the effort to listen more than I speak. You can’t truly know your colleagues and clients if you are doing all the talking
  • I began writing (something I’ve always wanted to do) and felt a little braver with each piece I wrote
  • I started planning better—and, for a change, sticking to those plans
  • I took time off to just be idle. Switching off does not come easily to me, but I now appreciate its importance
  • While helping my kid with homework, let’s just say, I confirmed what I’ve always known: I wasn’t built for biology, chemistry, or physics. Some things never change
  • I felt bad, cried, even thought about giving up and learnt that it’s okay to be emotional. It shows you are passionate about what are you doing

Was it a groundbreaking year? No. But was it a meaningful one? Absolutely.

I didn’t conquer the world or cross everything off my to-do list. But I grew. Quietly. Subtly. In ways that matter to me.

This year taught me that growth isn’t always loud or flashy. Sometimes it’s in the little things - the moments of stillness, the books you read, the conversations you have, and even the tears you shed.

So, as we step into another year, my biggest takeaway is this: Don’t let the pressure to achieve drown out the beauty of being. Because even the quiet years can shape extraordinary growth.

Thank you for reading.
