There are just too many dolts who either don't understand or averse to reading. Facebook paid marketing is done by all, from startups to brands, publishing platform, to media platforms, especially, the new digital ones, who pontificate, and all main political parties. They all shamelessly indulge in it. The advertisers still trust Facebook and sticking to it as there is still not a solid replacement for the plaform.
According to an article in CNBC "What is concerning advertisers is how Facebook might crack down on the data they can use. Advertising technology companies legally use authorized information from Facebook apps to find the right customers — though it's "shady genius" for Cambridge Analytica to allegedly to use a psychology quiz because it provides deeper insights, noted Jesse Math, PMX Agency group director of paid social and display."
The advertisers are targetting you based on your likes, demographics and other minute details which you vomit on facebook every other day. You signed up for it, willingly, & happily.
Why will Facebook run a free platform? They are not here to do charity. They are company and here to make a profit. In words of Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, "Facebook is an ad-based business model in order to do that we do not sell your data".
And yes, please stop playing those third parties games, a personality test app, which include celebrity you look like, what is the meaning of your name, the other psychological tests, and all the crap which you participate in and then post the results on your facebook timeline luring others to fall in the trap.
How to remain protected? (whatever that means in the digital world) Either Completely Go off The Grid Or Stop Whining. Go and check which apps and games you have logged into using Facebook and given access to information.
Please do the following steps:
1. The first step is to open the Settings menu by clicking the down arrow button located on the top bar of your Facebook homepage. You can limit the privacy settings or simply delete it if not using.
2. Click on ‘Privacy’ and select ‘Apps’.
3. Under ‘Apps, Web sites and Plug-ins’ click on the ‘Edit’ button.
4. Disable this and it will revoke access to third-party sources from using your Facebook information for logins. If not works, then
5. Down below you will find ‘Apps others use’ which shows the different information other Facebook users have access to on third-party apps and games. You can uncheck whatever information which you don't want to give access to.
What is Facebook data breach by #CambridgeAnalytica ?
"Cambridge Analytica, the firm which worked with Donald Trump during 2016 US Presidential Elections is alleged to have misused private data of 50 million users. This was done through a personality test app which collected information from Facebook users." - HT
