What is DE&I?

With Heritage Day approaching and the opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural heritage we have in South Africa, it is an excellent time to reflect on the significant progress we have made in society. However, our work is far from over.

At Vector Logistics, we strive to #GoBeyond by creating a work culture that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive of everyone. The concept of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) is used to describe policies and strategies implemented to promote the representation and participation of different groups of people, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, age, ability, disability, religion, values, culture, sexual orientation, and economic and social background.?

At Vector, we believe that DEI is not only about having a diverse group of employees, but it is about allowing them to have their voices heard, participate in activities, and be involved in different aspects of the organisation.?

Verna Myers, a leading diversity and inclusion expert says:

"Diversity is being invited to the party. Inclusion is being asked to dance.”

However, if you #GoBeyond - if diversity is being invited to the party, and inclusion means being asked to dance, then belonging is being asked for input into the playlist for the dance music and feeling free to ask anyone you want to dance with you.

Employee participation is crucial to the success of the concept. At Vector Logistics, we have created many initiatives that have embraced the idea of DEI, such as the FEMpower and? YES Initiative. We continue to implement initiatives in our organisation in order to acknowledge all of our employees and invite them to participate and contribute to our shared mission, vision, values, and goals.?
