How we are defined

I am in awe of the talented people I have been so lucky to call friends, business colleagues and acquaintances in my career. I love seeing all of their accomplishments and efforts on display on LinkedIn and other sources!

I often wonder what defines each of us from another. What makes things tick and why people do what they do. I felt compelled today to share with everyone one of my testimonies of what defines us: I believe we are best defined in times of great adversity! Putting on our best face forward to the world amidst the hardest moments. The people we work with and lead not ever really knowing just how hard something was but handling it. Slowing down and driving carefully even though we are in a massive hurry to be somewhere. Putting our phones down and bringing up something difficult to talk face to face with a person in need. Realizing our agenda may not be more important than the person next to us and listening to them to understand and learn.

Success is awesome but learning from and facing adversity with a positive attitude can be a real game changer. I recently have been through some of the most challenging times of my life and I can say that during this time I have been gifted with a testimony of taking on the challenge, realizing it was "my turn" to experience it, own it, learn from it and handle it with as much grace as possible. Instead of saying, "Why me?", ask, "Why not me?".
