Deer????do not cross the spot where the Iron Curtain used to be, even when they are born when the barbed wire was already gone, I read in a column of Hendrik Vos.
Deer are?creatures of habit.?
They have habits they follow and pass on to the next generations. (Maybe that's why the animals helping out Santa are deer ?? as well? ??)
Humans are creatures of habit also. That is how company cultures are built. The (unconscious) habits of employees become the company culture. ‘This is how we do things around here’ is spontaneously transmitted to new hires, contingent workers, suppliers, clients, etc.
People come and go and newcomers copy the behaviour of the people who have welcomed them and they perpetuate that behaviour, even when the context has changed. People continue avoiding the barbed wire even when ‘the iron Curtain’ is no longer there...
What is the type of behaviour you need to avoid so that they do not become habits?
First of all, it is essential that you take action when unacceptable behaviours do occur to make sure they will not be engrained in the behaviour of your team members as acceptable ones. So, if you act upon them on time and consistently, they will not become habits. They will not be seen as an evident part of your culture.
Watch out for the following types of behaviour:
These are only three examples, there are many more...
Your company culture is not the mission you write and the pictures you display on your company website.
Your company culture is built by the people who bring it to life.
Your company culture is what your teams, your people live and breathe every day.
Your company culture is what applicants sense from the first interaction they have with anyone in the company. Let that interaction be a positive one.
